Or why I’ll never lease a car again.

My lease on my car was up at the end of November so I went in to get everything figured out at the end of October. After seven hours of test driving, paperwork and general waiting around I had myself a new car. Monday I took care of the insurance and got a call about getting my car inspected so it could be turned in. The woman I was talking to made it clear that they only ran inspections Monday through Friday. I was working solidly Monday through Friday of that week between both jobs so I suggested November 4th since that was my next off day during the week. She said that she’d get a hold of the inspector and call me back. I waited a week, but heard nothing so I called them the following Monday while between jobs. I was told that November 4th didn’t work and they needed a different day. I told them the following Tuesday or Thursday because I had those off from my day job. The woman I talked to was rude, but she said she’d call me back and actually did…with a Wednesday appointment time. I called them back as I was going into my second job and expressed my displeasure with their lack of understanding. They got me a Thursday appointment time.

Thursday came around and I had this car ready. I’d cleaned it. I’d vacuumed it. I’d gone and put a little gas in it and even ran it through a car wash. I’d been told the inspector would be there anywhere between 9am and 1pm. I had to leave for work by 3:50pm. I called them about 12:30 to see what was going on. They were supposed to call me and cancel the appointment and would I please give them another time they could make me wait for nothing? So I told them that they were either going to get an inspector out to my house by the time I had to leave for work or I was dropping off the car at the bank because it’d been three weeks since I got my new car and I’d already received another payment bill for the old one. She told me that wasn’t possible and I needed to schedule another appointment with them. I said I’d drop my car off at the bank.
It was one of those times when family members were at work or out of town and my dad was another state away hunting so I drove up to the bank with the intention of walking home. The entire way there I tried to calm myself down because it wasn’t their fault that the inspectors are rude and can’t be available to check out a car. The lady who helped me was very polite and did what she could to take care of the problem. The entire time there was a part of me going, ‘I think she’s a fellow geek’ and so when all was said and done I mentioned Torchwood, cause I’d been watching it earlier. I picked the right fandom because she’s a Doctor Who fan so we talked for a bit and she gave me her tumblr. I left pretty quickly cause I still had to get to work and she was at work, but was so cool to talk fandom with someone! This is why I got a tumblr, I’d looked at a few things and had thought about it, but was worried there was a lot of wank here so stayed away. So am trying this, we’ll see.

The really cool thing about going up to the bank was suddenly the inspectors could not only see my car during the work week, but they could now come up to my job, they were available on weekends or I could drop my car off at the dealership. This was another reason I left early so I could drop the car off at the dealership. I called the dealership and left a message with the man in charge of leasing and my dealer called me back, reassured me they’d give me a ride home and I dropped my car off.

A week later the bank calls me to talk to me about turning my car in and seeing if I need a new one. I told them what happened, they apologized and said the inspector never contacted them and they’d take care of it.

Over a week later my dealership calls me to inform me that my car is still there and no one has been out there to see it.

So I called the inspectors today. At first they said the dealership said my car wasn’t there when they called. I gave them my dealer’s name again and told them he had the keys to the car. I then made sure they had the correct number. Suddenly it was my dealer’s fault as they’d called multiple times and no one ever got back with them or would schedule an appointment with them. Instead of calling her on changing her story I let her call the dealership to see if we could schedule an appointment together. The dealership was busy. I called them and the phone was busy. I called several times and it became obvious that their lines are down so I went in. I spoke to my dealer and gave him their number. He hadn’t heard from them at all, but he said he’d be glad to give them a call on his cell phone.

The car is still parked in the exact same spot I put it in two weeks ago.

Sadly I think this is not over. At least I made a new fandom friend and got a tumblr. I still owe her Dean/Ten.
