I had an accident at work the other day. I was adjusting a patient's wheelchair when the entire chair unbalanced and began to tip forward. I quickly tried to get the wheelchair to right itself by throwing all my weight on it and trying to keep her in the chair as I screamed for help. Thankfully four nurses ran over and helped me right the chair. I ended up with shoulder pain. I took some meds and continued on about my day. The nurse asked me if I wanted to fill out an incident report and of course I did because that's what you do. She gave me the workmen's comp card and I didn't want to go the ER and get checked out when I figured it was just a sprain, but better safe than sorry. Also I'd felt a bit of numbness/tingling and it needed to be checked out.

So after work I drank a 32 oz glass of soda...which is bad as I'm trying to avoid soda, but its standard to take a drug test when its workmen's comp and I wanted to makes sure I could pee in the stupid cup because every other place I've been to won't treat you until they have your drug test started. Yeah, the ER I went to wouldn't take my drug test until they had treated me. I waited over three and a half hours.

Not fun.

I got sent home with a diagnois of a sprain and some meds. Today I got a call from radiology and I'm slightly seperated my joint and have to follow up with OT. They said not to change my routine, but try to rest. I went and told my boss and she was speeding in the rearranging of my schedule and getting me an appointment. I go Monday.

I'm sore, but have meds. The resident is safe and that's what matters. However I'm tempted to snap at the next person who tells me I should've just let her hit the ground. I'm her caregiver, her safety is my concern and if I'm being honest with myself I didn't think in that situation I just reacted.
