Title: Never Wanted Nothing More Chapter 7 (Settling An Almost Situation)
Fandom: X-men and it you want to get technical it’s Generation X
Pairings: Jono/Ang
Rating: Pg-13
Summery: Written for [livejournal.com profile] 30_kisses challenge #2 news; letter. Jono ‘breaks up’ with Paige and lets her know he’s seeing Ang.
Disclaimer: I own nothing to do with the X-men or Generation X, it's not my toy box and I'm merely playing. I don’t own anything to do with the title, which I borrowed from a Kenny Chesney song. I also don’t own anything to do with Iron Chef, Star Trek or the song ‘Mary’ by the Scissor Sisters.
A/N: Jono speaks by projecting so his words will be in '' to represent that. The title of this piece is ‘Never Wanted Nothing More’ but each chapter also has a title.
A/N2: This isn’t the chapter I’d originally written. That is somewhere on my dead desktop so this is a rewrite and you know, I think it just might be better.

Settling An Almost Situation:

The sunlight that poured in through the window illuminated Paige’s hair till it became an almost golden halo around her already golden hair. She sat there, a smile playing at her lips as she absently read the letter her family had sent with her care package. Jono sat down across from her, hyper aware that they were alone in the kitchen and they needed to have a talk. He needed to make it clear he wasn’t interested in her.

“Hi, Jono,” she greeted, a bit of her accent softly leaking out in her obvious happiness to see him.

He nodded his head, an acknowledgement as he really wasn’t sure where to start. He couldn’t speak until he was ready to, his emotions came through with his words and she would know he was floundering.

Toast popped up from the toaster. She moved to retrieve it and butter from the fridge, as she prattled on about how the homemade jam from her package was so good and how she wished she had some homemade bread to go with it.

‘Ask your mother for the recipe,’ he suggested.

She smiled at him as she put her things on the table and went to get a knife, “I’m not so sure I’d have the time to make it, but I should. Maybe you could help me cook it? It’d be fun.”

Jono blinked. He couldn’t eat and she was asking him to help her make food?

She seemed to realize her error as she sat across from him. As she began to spread the butter she offered, “Cooking can be fun.”

‘Only if you get to eat the food.’

She looked at him confused for a moment, obviously not understanding the annoyance in his tone. She began to spread the jam, contemplation on her face before she smiled again, “It would smell good and everyone would appreciate it.”

He leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms and scowled. She set her food down and he relaxed slightly. He’d hoped she wouldn’t eat in front of him. Now that he no longer could it seemed disgusting on some levels. Smoking never bothered him, but watching the others eat sometimes turned his non-existing stomach.

“Moody today?” she asked before she took a bite of her food.

He wasn’t, not really, not until he sat down. Eating really was gross, with the chewing and the smacking lips and the swallowing. He blinked, wrinkled his nose and didn’t even bother answering.

“Ev asked me out,” she told him with a coy smile.

Why was she telling him this? Maybe she’d said yes and he wasn’t going to have to talk to her, wasn’t going to have to make it clear he wasn’t interested in her.

“I told him no. Maybe you’d want to go see a movie on Friday?”

‘No,’ he shot her down ‘I’ll be with Ang.’

She set her toast down and looked at him confused, “Saturday then?”

‘No,’ he said simply.

She frowned, “Next weekend?”

‘No, should’ve said yes to Ev,’ he tried.

“But we…you and I…we kissed ,” she tried, her accent thicker now that she was upset.

‘We didn’t, you…’

She sighed, “All right I was drunk, but you were so nice to me.”

‘Didn’t want you to do something stupid,’ he explained.

“But when I kissed you, you blew up the whole…”

‘Don’t remind me,’ he told her as he winced and closed his eyes.

“You don’t?” she started as she shook her head, “Was it that bad? Was I that bad?”

Great, now he felt like a jerk.

‘I don’t have any lips,’ he pointed out, ‘I wouldn’t be able to tell.’

She regarded him a moment with a frown, “Then what’s the problem? Why wouldn’t you want to date me?”

He paused then, trying to decide what to say next. If he said Ang she would react immediately, but he was certain that if he didn’t specify she would run through the list of other females in the house before he’d have to give her an answer. He wasn’t about to do that, ‘I’m with Ang.’

“With?”

‘As in we’re together.’

“You and Ang are…you’re….you..” she started then stopped. She shook her head, stood and walked away.

Jono scrubbed a hand over his face. It could’ve gone better, it could’ve gone worse. At least she hadn’t thrown anything at him. Gayle had always resorted to throwing things. He was tempted to retreat to the sanctuary of his basement, no he needed a friendly face. Instead he looked for Ang and found him playing video games with Ev. They greeted him enthusiastically as he dropped down beside Ang and leaned against him.

Ang pressed a kiss to his forehead, “Wanna see me kick Ev’s ass?”

“Don’t let Emma hear you use that word,” Ev reminded as he and Ang battled against each other.
Jono shook his head no.

Ang paused the game and looked over at him in concern, “You okay?”

He shrugged, glanced at Ev, ‘You should ask Paige out again.’

Ev nodded, “I will, once she’s calmed down and isn’t moping over you.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“She came tearing though here,” Ang explained, “Don’t worry, Jubes is doing the girl thing with her. She’ll be okay.”

‘She could barely look at me.’

Ev shrugged, “Subtlety’s not your thing and she’s tough.”

‘She is,’ Jono agreed.

“It’ll take a bit of time, but she’ll be okay,” Ang reassured.

“And if she’s not cool, Sean and Emma will talk to her,” Ev added.

Jono nodded. They were still teammates and with any luck they would still be friends.
