Finanical Aide angst of the last two months:
At least that the easiest way to describe what's been happening in regard to this semester. I knew that getting the degrees I'm attempting to would be difficult, but in the end I've done this to myself...as one of the finacial aide advisors was so lovely to point out to me on the phone while asking me to take 20 credit hours next semester when one of them is the toughest nursing class my community college has to offer. 8 credits hours of nursing for one class...I've watch classmates already freak out about it during summer classes and we don't even start until the 23rd.
Everythings been screwed up since the beginning of August. I had my scheduled figured out so that I had 16 credit hours, all my state classes in the morning and my nursing classes in the evening. My state school wasn't counting my 8 credit nursing class as anything since it wouldn't transfer to one of the programs I'm taking through them. So when my tution posted and several weeks went by without anything happening I called and basically got an earful about how if I just took another 4 credit class everything would be okay and oh we're cutting your aide. Which had already been cute because according to them I was part time. This woman was rude so I just told her what she wanted to hear and resolved to go up there when I could.
Thankfully on the day I planned to go up there I stopped at my community college first to update my id. This requires printing off your schedule. My evening clinical had been changed to a morning clinical...which effectively meant I couldn't take any of the morning English classes I signed up for. Goodbye Traditonal Grammar and Women in Medievil Lit (am really bummed about this). I tried to get it fixed but there were no open evening clinicals. I went to the nursing office and they were all 'yeah that clinical changed' without a sorry we didn't call and see if that was okay, sorry we didn't inform you. However the woman was willing to try and redo my whole schedule.
I thought about it. An 8 credit nursing class is a lot and if I want to get through this program then I need to pass it. Only 10 more months left! So I dropped the state classes. One problem, that as far as I understood it meant I get no aide this semester. So I called the devil (Sallie Mae) and asked for a loan. I got preapproved for everything except with my school and they encouraged me to go talk to my school.
The woman in finanical aide at my community college basically said screw Sallie Mae, we don't work with those bastards. (She put it nicer, but I guess they realized what bastards Sallie Mae are and aren't subjecting students to them anymore). Now I had been told that it didn't matter what classes I took I had to get finicial aide from my state school. Apparently I was misinformed and if I'm only taking community college classes I can get aide through them. So right now I've told the Sallie Mae no thanks (and boy did that feel good) and filled out all my paperwork.
Hopefully things will work out. I plan to go in next week to make sure.
In the meantime finals week for my sci-fi class! I will be sad to see this class go.
