I went to my first cosplay event that wasn't a con, though it was put together by a con and the con wanted some local cosplayers to show up and if you did you got free tickets to the con. I wasn't going to turn that down. So I dressed up as Swerve and took my blaster and hung out with some friends and two other cosplay groups from the area. It was fun. A friend and I got dinner after.
For the con I'm taking my nephew on Saturday, it'll be his first con. So far the plan is he'll dress as Iron Man and we'll see how he likes it. When I took my niece she had fun for several hours, we got tons of pictures of her with other cosplayers, took frequent breaks, and she took a long nap after. He's about the same age she was when I took her. Sunday I volunteered to help run the brunch groups booth for a few hours. I'm hoping to get two autographs too.
I'm also thinking of going to Lexington comic con the following weekend. However it's a little over a five hour drive and I work Friday, so I think I would have to go down Saturday, get a hotel room, and then go to the con Sunday. Which leaves me trying to find someone to watch the dogs. I've asked my cousin, who usually does a crappy job of watching the house and the dogs, but well, they love him and he tends to be my go to. I text him, he said he was free that weekend, and then when I asked about dog sitting I heard nothing back. So I'm going to try a few family and friends. I think I can afford both if I very carefully budget.
Both cons should be good things for my fitbit. They've been pushing us to get one at work and I finally got one mid-January. I've lost ten pounds since then. I've been tracking my food and increasing my step count. I've gotten over 10k steps each day over the last three days.
