Lupe feels like a fraud when she tells Jess hermano, when she thrusts that word between them like a shield. She wants, but she came to play baseball, came to have adventures, and make money, she didn’t come here to fall in love. So they play, they find other women they can have flings with, and they slowly grow close as the season progresses.
At the end of the season Jess asks, “Do you want to stay here or go home with me?”
“Home? Mine or yours?”
Jess tilts her head, lips quirking. “Whichever means I get to keep you.”
