Read a post by
phantom_blue about a fic found here where the author clearly copied and pasted transcripts from Rangerwiki.
I went and checked the fic out and well it's clear stealing and kinda a painful read, but I left a review:
Okay, so basically what you have here is an AU. Which you then need to label as AU. Remember one of the first thing Zhane says is that he doesn't know any female rangers so adding one...rather AU. Also at times the chars are OoC, switching from one emotion to the next without any reason. Watch your tenses, sometimes you write in present tense other times past in the same sentence.
The switching to script and the odd boldfacing should also be edited. Though I suspect that these instances are when you are copying another author's transcript of the episode. Working an episode into the plot using a transcript as a basis for what you want to write is okay, but you have to make it your own. You can't just copy. Or write an author's note in the middle of the chapter saying what episode the next bit is from. Trust your reader to know that. Don't plagerize another person's hard work!
You have ruined what could be an intersting idea/back story by copying from someone else.
Then I reported the plagarism and the use of chat/script. This is the reply I got from the author:
thanks for the lesson. I already got that one. geez it was two chapters using
Rangerwiki and I'm getting lectures for it. it won't happen again. if it does
I make sure to say what I'm doing.
also this was a boredom/writer's block story. i don't do this all the time.
yesh.
I am tempted to message back that the plot could've gone an interesting route, the OC could've been intriquing, but now it's ruined. I'm not sure if reiterating that point will get it across. Then I'd want to point out that she shouldn't do this ever.
