Aftermath:
Peggy would like nothing more than to collapse into bed, or bathe, or eat. She’s not sure where to start. She leans more firmly into Angie as the two of them lean back against the front door of their apartment. She glances at Angie, then says the one thing she’s wanted to since this whole fiasco started, “You didn’t have to pretend to be me.”
Angie sighs and rolls her eyes. “I’m an amazing actress and you knew how to get me back while keeping whatever doohickey those kidnappers wanted safe. I wouldn’t have known where to start if you’d been kidnapped.”
Peggy sighs. She can’t argue with that logic, not when they’re both safe. Angie gives her a sly smile. Peggy arches an eyebrow.
“Last time I borrow your clothes,” Angie teases.
Peggy snorts in disbelief. Angie laughs, then continues laughing as she presses her forehead against the side of Peggy’s head. Their hands find each other, fingers intertwine.
“You’d make a decent spy,” Peggy offers. “You’d need more self-defense lessons.”
“I’ll take the lessons, but not the job,” Angie agrees.
Peggy smiles. “You’d still make a decent spy.”
“I don’t date where I work, sorry to disappoint.”
Peggy shifts. “You’re never a disappointment, don’t think that for a moment.”
“Even though I got your favorite hat ripped to shreds?”
“You alive and safe is more important than any hat,” Peggy says, shifting to look at her.
Angie leans close, till their foreheads touch. “I’m going to remind you of that when you’re missing your hat.”
She had loved that hat. It’d been one of her favorite accessories. Still, Peggy leans in and kiss Angie, who sighs into the kiss.
“I’m too tired to start anything,” Angie complains. “C’mon English, first a bath, then food, then sleep.”
Peggy agrees.
