Recipe Decisions:
Jason and Steph drop onto the couch. Jason sets the cookbook on the coffee table and flips it open. Steph opens her notebook and clicks her pen. She writes down pancakes and checks it off.
“I’m very tempted to say we keep letting Damian explore pancakes,” Steph comments.
“I didn’t expect him to turn it into art,” Jason agrees.
“Did you see the Noibat he made Cass?” Steph grins.
“I got a Cubone so you can be jealous of me instead.”
Steph snorts. “Cubone aren’t purple and I got a Espeon so definitely not jealous.”
Jason rolls his eyes as he picks up The Boxcar Children’s Cookbook and flips it to the index. “Okay so we’ve taught him Lemonade, French Toast, that Apple-Nut salad thing, and pancakes. What next?”
Steph sets her notebook down and leans in to see the index. “I don’t think any of the sandwiches are going to work, unless we want to go with egg salad.”
“S’Mores sound really good,” Jason comments.
“Yeah, but he already knows how to make s’mores,” Steph points out.
Jason agrees and huffs. “Maybe Potato Salad or Mashed Potatoes?”
“There’s a recipe for asparagus, he might like that,” Steph says.
“Do you want to be eating attempts at asparagus or attempts at brownies?” Jason challenges.
Steph nods, “That’s four.”
She writes them down and numbers them. Jason hands her a four-side dice. She shakes it and is about to drop it onto the table when the door bursts open and Damian glares at both of them. His arms are laden with books.
“You are teaching me from a children’s cookbook, this is unacceptable. I’ve brought you alternatives,” he announces.
“I think you’ve liked the recipes we’ve taught you,” Jason grumbles.
“We were trying to pick out the next one,” Steph placates. “We’d narrowed it down to potato salad, mashed potatoes, asparagus, or brownies.”
Damian makes an annoyed noise at them and deposits the books in front of them. He pulls out his phone. “How do you spell asparagus?”
“Are those Ghibli cookbooks?” Steph asks.
“I bought you two different ones,” Damian agrees. “Asparagus?”
“Is that a Jane Austen cookbook?” Jason asks as he picks up half the stack and deposits it in on coffee table so he can pick it up. “I didn’t even know they made anything like this!”
“You’re welcome,” Damian glares as he snatches The Boxcar Children’s cookbook up and frowns at it.
“Don’t get rid of that,” Jason warns as he flips open the Jane Austen cookbook. “I’ve had it since I was a kid.”
“I am merely looking up how to spell asparagus,” Damian grumbles reluctantly.
Jason glances at him and holds out his hand. Damian glares back, then rests his phone on the cookbook and clearly looks up asparagus. He flips to the recipe and frowns at it, then close the book and hands it to Jason who sets it in his lap.
“Is that a Star Wars cookbook?” Steph asks. She picks another one up and holds it out to Jason. “Here Literary Gourmet is probably for you.”
Jason eyes it. “Hand me the Golden Girls one.”
“I want that one,” Steph protests. “There’s probably cheesecake in there!”
“Three recipes for cheesecake,” Damian tells them as he sits down across from them and frowns at his phone. “I’m going to look up other asparagus recipes.”
Jason looks between the cookbook in his hand, the one Steph is holding out to him, and the Golden Girls one still on the coffee table. “Sometimes asparagus gets cooked with bacon so…”
“I’ve found a ‘Cheesy Garlic Roasted’ recipe that doesn’t include bacon,” Damian informs him.
“But cheesecake,” Steph protests.
“Asparagus first,” Damian counters.
Jason opens the cookbook in his hands and leans back into the couch before pointing out, “Alfred will be more into letting us experiment with cheesecake if we teach Damian something healthy first.”
Steph groans dramatically as she switches the book in her hand for the Golden Girls one. “Fine, asparagus first, but desert next.”
