Venture:
Pavitr knows he probably shouldn't be excited about his first villain from another world visiting his, but this is something new, and he can hear the way his enthusiasm is causing the Peter monitoring his progress to smile. It's the Peter who just had a kid. Apparently newborns are exhausting. Still, it's nice to see a Peter that isn't weighed down by the realities of being a superhero.
Pavitr is hyper aware that he's likely another version of Peter. It's easier to pretend he isn't when Hobie or Gwen are around. He's not ready for the worst thing that's ever happened to him to not be his uncle dying in his arms. He suspects that for a lot of Peters it gets worse. So Pavitr is trying to hold onto the fun parts, the adventure, of being Spider-Man as tightly as he can for as long as he can.
The villain isn't moving off the roof he landed on so he's easy to find. Pavitr takes in a boy about his age in a costume that's mostly grey, with an R symbol on it. He's wearing a domino mask. He's painting the skyline on a tiny easel with a tiny paint set. It's small enough that it probably fits in one of the pouches on his belt.
He tenses when Pavitr lands. “If we’re going to fight, would you let me finish painting first?”
Pavitr is suddenly grateful he’s got the Peter monitoring him that he does. “I’d rather not fight if we don’t have to. I came to offer you a way home.”
His words don’t ease the tension in the other teenager’s shoulders. Pavitr knows this look, the way he’s holding himself. He knows what being exhausted by pressure looks like on another hero. Maybe that’s why he finds a place to perch and take off his mask. “I’m Pavitr.”
The other hero studies him silently. The paintbrush in his hand stills. “Robin. Where am I?”
“Mumbattan.”
“It’s beautiful. I only had water colors,” Robin tells him.
Do they have art supplies at the Spider Society? They seem to have everything. “Did you want to paint it in water colors?”
Pavitr thinks he knows where to get art supplies.
Robin tilts his head, takes in the colors of the city. “Water colors are adequate. I’d rather have pastels, the colors here are beautiful.”
Peter tells him to hang on, that he’ll see what he can find and get him a day pass. Robin asks him more about Mumbattan and Pavitr asks him about art. Peter tells him when he’s ready to show up and Pavitr warns Robin. Peter drops off two different sets of pastels, a pastel sketchbook, civilian clothes, and a day pass. They explain about the day pass and how they’ll get him home. Robin lets them put the day pass on. He takes the sketchbook and then studies the pastels. When Peter leaves Robin tells him. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Robin nods. Then pauses his hands hovering over his domino mask. Pavitr checks the time.
“I have to be home in an hour,” Pavitr tells him. “Are you hungry? I’m sure my aunt Maya would love to feed you.”
Robin hesitates again.
“You look like you could use a break,” Pavitr explains. “And my aunt won’t mind.”
“I’m a vegetarian,” Robin says.
“I’ll let her know.” Pavitr grins.
He leaves briefly to get his clothes and his phone. His aunt doesn’t mind. He lets Robin know when he gets back to the roof. Robin studies him again, sets the pastel in his hand down, then carefully removes his domino mask. “It’s Damian.”
“Hi,” Pavitr greets.
“Hi,” Damian repeats.
Pavitr manages to find a place to perch instead of telling Damian how pretty his eyes are. He’s not great at flirting. He’s only just starting to get the courage to try and flirt with Gayatri. He hasn’t even asked her on a date yet. So instead of flirting Pavitr tries, “I’m sixteen. How old are you?”
“Sixteen.”
Damian asks him more about his home and his aunt as he recreates the skyline. Eventually the art supplies get carefully hidden and Damian changes into the clothes Peter brought. They determine that Damian can use his grappling hook. Pavitr realizes he likes swinging through his city with Damian. It’s fun.
Damian is polite to Aunt Maya, compliments her food, and allows Aunt Maya to fuss over him. Somehow Aunt Maya talks Damian into a sleepover. Damian looks a little stunned when he finds himself standing in Pavitr’s room holding sleep clothes.
“I didn’t mean to impose,” Damian tries.
“You’re not. Spend the night, take a break.”
Damian frowns.
Pavitr sighs, takes the clothes and sets them on his bed. Then he reaches out and Damian lets him take his hands. “Aunt Maya said you look like you need to ‘take it easy,’ what do you think ‘take it easy’ means?”
“I thought you were going to try and hug me,” Damian confesses.
“Do you want a hug?”
Damian doesn’t answer. Pavitr pats him on the back. They both change. They share the bed. They talk more and eventually sleep. Their morning is lazy in a way Pavitr hasn’t had in a long time. Eventually, when Aunt Maya’s decided she’s packed enough treats for Damian to take home, they go back to the roof. Damian spends another hour drawing with pastels before saying he’s ready to go home.
“Can I give you a hug goodbye?” Damian asks once he’s back in his Robin costume.
The hug is warm and tight and Pavitr can feel Damian relaxing in his arms.
Damian shifts. “Thanks.”
Pavitr almost quips, but then Damian kisses him goodbye and Pavitr isn’t going to ruin his first kiss by not kissing back. When they part, Pavitr takes Damian’s hand and leads him through the portal, telling himself this is another amazing adventure for Spider-Man.
