A/N: Written for the [community profile] fan_flashworks prompt riddle on Dreamwidth way back in 09/25 because I am way behind on crossposting!

Stephanie knows what’s happening the moment she sees the riddle. The only question is has she been captured by The Riddler or her excuse for a father? Her father is supposed to be in jail, but she’s willing to admit that doesn’t mean much. Maybe she’s lucky and this is a particularly annoying dream?

She pinches herself, no such luck. She sighs, solves the riddle and watches as the door to the cell she’s in swings open. She groans as she takes in the hallway. Great, a maze. There will not be a reward at the end, only further annoyances.

She checks the ground just outside the cell, determines it’s safe, and sits down. “What happens if I refuse to play?”

No one answers. No annoyed father. No bantering Riddler. She groans, she wants to know who she’s dealing with.

Stephanie checks her utility belt and groans again when she realizes it’s been emptied out while she was unconscious. She had better get her phone back, even if it was her bat-phone and not her personal phone. She is beating both Tim, Jason, and her mom at Scrabble. She only has the game on her bat-phone.

With annoyance Stephanie stands, dusts herself off and straightens her cape. Time to rescue herself.

A wall caves in further down the hall. Stephanie shifts into a fighting stance and is trying to decide if she should make a run down the hall when Jon pops his head in. “Found her!”

“Was destroying the wall necessary?” Damian asks.

Jason hops up onto the rubble and waves her bat-phone at her. “It was satisfying.”

“Thanks!” Jon grins.

Stephanie smiles and shakes her head. “Let me guess, whoever kidnapped me didn’t check to see if my phone could be tracked?”

Damian’s look of consternation is all the confirmation she needs.

“So who kidnapped me?” Stephanie asks.

“Someone so new he was trying to get Red Robin and Black Bat to pick out a name for him,” Jason informs her with a shrug.

“He’d intended them to be a ‘prize’ you had to pick between,” Damian grumbles.

Stephanie sighs as she reaches them and takes her phone back. She slips it into her utility belt. “He sounds incredibly annoying.”

“That’s what Red Robin and Black Bat let him know,” Jason reassures her.

“They’re on the other end of the facility dismantling things since we were closer,” Jon puts in.

“Good,” Stephanie nods. “I’m not in the mood for annoying riddles today.”
