Summary: John Shen comes home to Cliff Marleau.

John parks his car and lets himself lean back in his seat. He closes his eyes and groans. He presses the heels of his hands against his eyes and then forces himself to take a deep breath. He reminds himself that he’s got a long weekend, three whole days to forget about work. Also, he needs sleep before he has to pick his boyfriend up from the airport. John smiles, it’s been a while since they’ve had a whole weekend together. He misses Cliff, but his boyfriend will be here this evening. Maybe they can finalize their summer vacation plans? Long distance is proving difficult, but worth it.

Bolstered by that thought John makes himself get out of his car. He stands there a moment and takes another deep breath. Every part of him aches. He just wants to takes a shower and go to sleep. Maybe if he’s lucky the worst parts of last night’s shift won’t play over and over in his head, keeping him awake.

He pauses in the doorway. His house smells amazing! John’s mouth waters. Is Cliff already here? Did he buy cinnamon rolls on the way over from the airport?

Suddenly there’s a small Tortie cat screaming at him. John scrambles to shut the door. She screams at him again.

“Marie!” John greets, feeling himself smile. “Did Cliff make you get on an airplane with him?”

Marie meows and then comes over to sniff him. She screams again, insistently as she bumps her head against his leg. John crouches down so he can pet her. “I missed you too.”

He tells her what a good cat she is and that he got her new toys. She basks in letting him pet her for a moment before she bumps her head against his knee and starts to wander away. John stands up slowly. He stifles a yawn before taking off his shoes, then dropping his keys in a bowl that’s on the table in his entry way. He picks up the pack of cat toys he’d been planning to send home with Cliff, but now they’ll get to be at his house for when Marie visits. He jingles the bag and she comes running with a loud meow. He opens the bag and scatters the three toys for her. She immediately scrambles after the toy mouse.

“Are you spoiling my cat again?” Cliff calls from the direction of the kitchen.

John smiles as he makes his way there. “It’s what she deserves.”

He pauses in the entryway to his kitchen. There are cinnamon rolls! Cliff sets a mixing bowl down and smiles at him. John gives himself a moment to take his boyfriend in. He’s wearing sleep pants and a faded t-shirt. John wants to press himself against his boyfriend and kiss him, but he’s still in his scrubs and really wants a shower before he touches Cliff. He wishes he had some energy so he could drag Cliff into the shower with him. John knows they have all weekend to have sex, but having that energy now would be amazing. Cliff smirks at him.

“Yeah, yeah, you know I think you’re hot,” John teases.

“It’s still gratifying to have you look at me like that,” Cliff pokes back. “Unless it was the cinnamon rolls you were eyeing.”

“They smell so good,” John groans.

“Come taste test the icing for me, see if it’s sweet enough,” Cliff tempts, before he dips a finger in, shows John the dab of icing he’s picked up and then wiggles it slightly. John rolls his eyes, but steps forward to grab Cliff’s wrist. He waits until Cliff makes eye contact with him to let his tongue swipe at the icing. He uses his grip on Cliff’s wrist to guide Cliff’s finger into his mouth. He sucks gently as his tongue slowly, thoroughly, licks the icing away. Cliff makes a grumbling noise before he’s pulling his finger out of John’s mouth. Cliff kisses him slow and deep and John really just wants to press himself close. He lets himself cup Cliff’s face and groan.

“Good?” Cliff asks.

John hums an affirmative.

“I know you need a shower, but how about we eat first?” Cliff suggests.

“I eat one of those and I’m going to fall asleep,” John warns.

“After your shower, you can fall asleep. I could use a nap, so I’ll even sleep with you,” Cliff teases.

“Best weekend ever,” John compliments as he tries to stifle a yawn.

“It will be,” Cliff tells him smiling.

John smiles back.

Cliff plates up a cinnamon roll for each of them and then hands John the icing. John blinks at the icing and then the roll on his plate. He shakes his head, trying not to yawn again. He pours some icing on, then hands the bowl to Cliff who does the same to his. Then Cliff pours the remaining icing on the cinnamon rolls still in the pan before covering up the pan and putting it in the fridge. He puts the empty bowl in the fridge too.

“I’ll clean that after we get you in bed. I’d put it in the sink with some water, but, well Marie,” Cliff explains.

John chuckles, remembering all the times Marie’s gone exploring on his counters and made a mess. He smiles as he inhales the scent of his cinnamon roll. He tries to savor every bite, but about halfway through he’s struggling to keep his eyes open.

“Shower?” Cliff asks.

John looks down at his cinnamon rolls because if he looks at Cliff they will be getting naked and in the shower and he really wants to finish his cinnamon roll. He picks it up and shoves half of what’s left into his mouth before taking a bite. Cliff snorts, but lets him finish eating before taking him into the bathroom that’s attached to his bedroom. Cliff turns the water on and is out of his clothes so fast that John just lets himself stare.

“I really wish I was more awake right now,” John grumbles.

Cliff grins, drops his clothes on the counter, then starts helping John out of his scrubs, dropping them in the hamper. John lets himself have a moment of being grateful that tonight hadn’t been a shift that meant walking right to his washing machine, stripping his scrubs into the machine, taking a shower, and then washing his scrubs. Cliff checks the water temperature, makes an adjustment, then checks again. He gets in, pulling John in with him. John closes his eyes as the water starts washing last night away. He hears the cap open on a bottle and smells his shampoo. Then Cliff’s hands are in his hair. John tilts his head under the spray when Cliff tells him too. They repeat the same process with the conditioner. Then Cliff is using a washcloth he defiantly didn’t put in here to scrub him with his bodywash.

“How early did you get here?” John asks as he lets Cliff wash his back.

“I told you that you’d enjoy it if you gave me a key,” Cliff deflects, then sighs. “I just didn’t see the point in not getting an earlier flight when I could have breakfast and a shower waiting for you.”

“I’m going to sleep,” John reminds him.

“I know,” Cliff agrees before giving the back of his neck a quick kiss. After rinsing Cliff wraps them both in towels. John is still drying himself off by the time Cliff is back in his sleep pants, but John’s moving slow. He’s tired. Cliff steps out of the bathroom, then comes back with sleep pants for him. Then Cliff starts drying his torso.

“I can dry myself,” John grumbles.

Cliff hugs him close and hooks his chin over John’s shoulder as he complains, “You were doing such a good job of letting me take care of you.”

John opens his mouth to retort, but his words turn quickly into a yawn. He gets in his sleep pants and then under his covers. Cliff gives him another kiss, then tells him that he’s going to clean up the kitchen, then grab John’s phone. He also encourages John to sleep. John watches him going and struggles not to close his eyes. He wants to fall asleep cuddling his boyfriend.

He’s dozing, almost asleep when Cliff comes back and plugs his phone in before settling under the covers with him. John presses close, breathing in the smell of Cliff and his own bodywash.

“Abbott called,” Cliff informs him.

“He got it out of me that we’re planning to go ring shopping this weekend,” John manages. “He just wants to brag.”

Cliff snorts. “Well, if he hadn’t dragged you out to that diner we never would’ve met.”

“That does not give him as much bragging rights as he thinks it should,” John counters.

“Did you tell him that you prefer gold jewelry and I prefer silver?” Cliff asks.

“It was a long shift,” John defends himself.

Cliff hums and kisses him. John barely manages to kiss back before Cliff is pulling away. John blinks his eyes open and smiles at Cliff smiling down at him. Cliff tells him, “He thinks you should get a gold ring and I should get a silver ring, but that mine should have your birthstone and yours should have mine.”

John stills because this seems like a brilliant solution to his and Cliff’s dissimilar jewelry tastes. This even seems like the kind of good idea that’ll still feel like a good idea after he’s gotten some sleep.

“Fuck,” John groans. “Okay, fine, Abbott can have bragging rights. Ellis is still my first pick for best man.”

“You still have to ask me first,” Cliff reminds.

“I have it on good authority that you’ll say yes,” John hums.

“I mean how am I supposed to resist you?” Cliff teases.

John smiles again. “Sleep, then sex.”

Cliff laughs and kisses his forehead. “Exactly.”

John settles around Cliff and finally lets himself fall asleep secure in the knowledge that he’s going to have an amazing weekend.
